About PrivNote

PrivNote is a self-destructing encrypted message service that lets you send sensitive information that disappears after being read. Our free encrypted note service uses AES-256-GCM encryption with zero-knowledge architecture — your password never leaves your browser. Whether you're sharing passwords, confidential instructions, private links, or sensitive personal information, PrivNote ensures your message is seen only by its intended recipient and then permanently destroyed.

The encryption happens entirely in your browser before the note is sent. Your plaintext message and password are encrypted client-side using PBKDF2-derived AES-256-GCM keys. Only the encrypted ciphertext is transmitted to our servers. Even if our servers were compromised, your messages remain unreadable. You can optionally set an expiry time (1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days) after which the note is automatically deleted even if unread.

Key features include: military-grade AES-256-GCM encryption with PBKDF2 key derivation (600,000 iterations), zero-knowledge password handling, self-destruct after first read, optional time-based expiry, anonymous usage with no registration, and clean one-click copy of shareable links. From security-conscious professionals to everyday users sharing sensitive information, PrivNote provides enterprise-grade secure communication.

How to Send a Self-Destructing Message

  1. Type your message: Enter the sensitive information you want to share in the text area.
  2. Set a password (optional): Add a password for extra security. Your password is used only in your browser for encryption — we never receive it.
  3. Choose expiry: Select when the note should expire: after first read, 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days.
  4. Click "Encrypt & Create Note": Your message is encrypted in-browser with AES-256-GCM. Only the encrypted version is sent to our servers.
  5. Share the link: Copy the generated URL and share it with your intended recipient. If you set a password, share that separately.

Tip: For maximum security, share the password through a different channel than the note link (e.g., link via email, password via SMS). This ensures that even if one channel is compromised, your message stays secure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PrivNote?

A secure messaging service that encrypts your notes in-browser and destroys them after they're read.

Is PrivNote free?

Yes, completely free with no limits, subscriptions, or hidden fees.

Do I need to register?

No. Create and read encrypted notes instantly without any account.

Is my message truly secure?

Yes. AES-256-GCM encryption with PBKDF2 key derivation (600K iterations). Your password never reaches our servers.

What happens after my note is read?

The note is permanently deleted from our servers. It cannot be recovered by anyone, including us.

Can I set an expiry time?

Yes, choose from 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. The note auto-deletes even if unread.

Can I read my own note after creating it?

Once you create a note and the link is generated, that is the only way to access it. Open the link in a private/incognito window to test it.

What encryption is used?

AES-256-GCM (Advanced Encryption Standard 256-bit) with PBKDF2 key derivation using SHA-256 and 600,000 iterations.

What browsers are supported?

Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera. Requires Web Crypto API support.

Can I use this on mobile?

Yes, fully responsive for smartphones and tablets.

Can I recover a read note?

No. Once read, the note is permanently deleted. This is by design for security.
